Job Description

Position Summary

The Property Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. This role supports accurate month-end close, property-level financial statements, and compliance with accounting standards, while partnering closely with property management, leasing, and asset management teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties
  • Manage month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate general ledger for each property
  • Reconcile bank accounts, CAM, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Review and support rent billing, escalations, and CAM recoveries
  • Assist with budgeting and variance analysis at the property level
  • Coordinate with property management on operational and financial questions
  • Support year-end audits and lender reporting as needed
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 2-5+ years of experience in property or real estate accounting
  • Strong understanding of commercial or residential lease structures
  • Experience with property management software such as Yardi, MRI, or similar
  • Solid Excel skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines effectively
